The bike

A wee run down on the bike.  I'm using an old commuter bike that was kindly donated to me from a work mate a few years ago.  Steel frame and has all the carrier mounting holes which makes life easy.  Gave it a paint job and designed some decals for it (unfortunately I didn't take any pictures before but I like to think it is an improvement) then played the waiting game ordering stuff from overseas.  Stung both times with import, duty tax and gst which was a bit of blowout but still cheaper than buyer local - shame.  Had a fair bit of help and advice from the local bike shop - Basic Bikes - and I'll be back for some more goodies to finish the build.  Neil, up in Welly from Capital Cycles, big thanks to you for sorting out panniers (ortleib's are awesome!) and an old school styled brooks seat.

It's been a fun, stressful and drawn out process that was meant to be completed at the end of January.  Hopefully I'll get a test ride before heading away!

Still a few things to add but it's getting there.

In the beginning...

Trying to understand how to be up to date with the tech world of internet blogging.

The first stage of the trip flying into Phuket for a lazy few days (diving and taking in the culture) then on the bike or maybe a trian or bus up to Bangkok and who knows where from there...
The first stage of the trip (1 square about 110km)
